Wat Phra Sing
Date: Sunday 5th February 2012Wat Phra Sing in Chiang Rai was originally built during the 15th century by King Pra Chao Maha Proma in classic Lanna style, and the wat has been restored several times.
It housed the famous Phra Phuttha Sing image which is believed to have been brought from Sri Lanka during the Sukhothai period but which is now enshrined in Chiang Mai.
Just like Wat Phra Kaeo, the temple now houses a replica instead. A special feature is the Lanna-style Ubosot and the wooden door panels carved by Chiang Rai contemporary craftsmen.
Apart from the famous Ebony and Gold image of Buddha and the Purple Jade Buddha, there are several other fascinating Buddha images housed in Wat Pra Singh under the sacred Bodhi trees.
Wat Pra Singh is also renowned as a teaching monastery for Pali language.

Located 10 kms south of Chiang Rai, Wat Rong Khun - the White Temple, by renowned Thai artist Chalermchai Kositpipat - is a visual symphony in white, a striking architectural masterpiece in a land of beautiful temples! Prints of Chalermchai's paintings are available at a shop within the temple grounds. 
The Karen elephant camp at Baan Ruammit on the bank of the Mae Nam Kok (Kok River) is located 19 kilometres from Chiang Rai. Well worth a visit, its easily reached by either long-tail boat (recommended), car or motorcycle. There are a few souvenir shops, hot coffee, and its a nice trip, however you get there.
