Wat Phra That Tham Doi Kong Kao is located between the road and the river, approximately 1km before the turn-off to the Chiang Rai Jail. There is a cave accessible from the parking lot, up a short flight of stairs (see photo below). Take a torch because the lights are not always turned on…

The Karen elephant camp at Baan Ruammit on the bank of the Mae Nam Kok (Kok River) is located 19 kilometres from Chiang Rai. Well worth a visit, its easily reached by either long-tail boat (recommended), car or motorcycle.
